Tips to Help Choose Between Botox and Fillers

Botox Fillers Bellevue, WA

BOTOX® fillers can help you to preserve your youthful appearance. We all have to deal with things like creases appearing on our faces, crow’s feet, and frown lines as we get older. These aging signs often develop around the cheeks, forehead, mouth, nose, and eyes. They are a normal part of the aging process, but innovations like can reduce their appearance, making you look younger.

Choosing between dermal and BOTOX fillers

The only person qualified to determine if BOTOX or dermal fillers are right for you is a healthcare professional with extensive knowledge of facial structures. Treatment with BOTOX involves the provider injecting small quantities of the product into areas of the patient’s face with visible signs of aging. BOTOX consists of purified proteins that block the nerve signals that tell muscles to contract. Strategically blocking the contraction of certain muscles in the face leads to smoother-looking skin. Dermal fillers are gel-like products that contain chemicals like hyaluronic acid. They help to plump up skin that has lost its volume.

Dentists have extensive knowledge about craniofacial structures that helps them to evaluate patients to determine which option works for them. Some of the ways patients can prepare for their treatment with fillers include:

1. Get pre-treatment tips from the provider

Patients should be educated on how to prepare for treatment with BOTOX or dermal fillers before their appointment since using certain over-the-counter painkillers like naproxen, ibuprofen, and aspirin can lead to more bruising after the treatment. These drugs make it harder for blood clots to form, which increases the risk of bruising after treatment with fillers.

Prescription anticoagulants can also lead to increased bruising after getting fillers. Patients are typically still allowed to take these medications heading into their treatment, but they are encouraged to skip a day if they have bruising afterward.

Some supplements like ginseng, ginkgo biloba, and fish oil can also lead to bruising, so patients should stop taking them about a week ahead of their treatment.

2. Avoid alcohol

Patients should avoid consuming alcohol leading to and after their treatment. At the very least, they should abstain from drinking the day before and after getting fillers.

3. Use ice packs

Ice packs can help to prevent bruising after getting fillers. The ice pack should be applied for no more than 15 minutes at a time. Keeping your head raised by propping it up with a pillow and avoiding strenuous activities for at least two days following your treatment also help to reduce bruising.
