3 Popular Smile Makeover Procedures
A smile makeover is a combination of cosmetic dental treatments that are performed to transform the way that your smile looks. The experience is unique for each patient because everyone gets customized treatment plans that target their specific needs.
The way that your teeth look is one of the most obvious parts of your physical appearance. You might become self-conscious if you are not pleased with the way that your teeth look.
Three popular smile makeover treatments
Here are treatments commonly included in smile makeover procedures.
1. Composite bonding
This is one of the least invasive treatments performed by dentists. It consists of repairing and rebuilding damaged teeth with a resin that is made up of mixtures of plastics and glass. The composite is usually color-matched with the patient’s remaining teeth, so repairs and restorations do not stick out.
Issues that can be treated with composite bonding include chipped, broken, discolored, and misshaped teeth. The treatment can also be used to close spaces between teeth.
There is no need to make any permanent alterations to the patient’s teeth during the application of composite bonding. That means the procedure is reversible if a better solution is developed in the future. It takes about 45 minutes to restore a tooth with a composite resin, and the entire process can be completed during a single trip to the dentist. Repairs made with composite bonding can last up to five years.
2. Veneers
These are popular restorations used in cosmetic dentistry because veneers are unmatched when it comes to their ability to turn any smile into an amazing one. They were originally developed to enhance the smiles of movie stars, but anyone can get veneers nowadays.
Veneers are cemented to the front part of the teeth being restored. These restorations hide any flaws on the front of the tooth.
Fitting a tooth with a veneer requires removing enamel from its front surface. This creates space for the veneer and prevents it from making the patient’s teeth appear abnormally large. The removal of enamel is a permanent procedure that cannot be reversed. Getting veneers usually requires two trips to the dentist.
3. Crowns
Crowns cover the entire visible part of a tooth, hiding any flaws. It can be used to treat most aesthetic issues because the affected tooth will no longer be visible once the crown is installed. The procedure requires removing enamel from all four sides of the tooth being treated, to create a better fit.
